The September exhibition at Machine Arts Gallery brings different periods of Wilson’s practice together. More than 20 prints will offer a look at the intricate geometric systems, algorithmic variation, and extraordinary density that have come to characterize his work.
But the exhibition also marks a return.
For the first time since the early 1990s, Wilson has created a new group of works with a pen plotter. Five new plotted drawings will be exhibited alongside his printed work, returning Wilson to a machine and process that played a central role in the development of his artistic practice more than four decades ago.
As Wilson puts it: “You have to trust yourself as an artist. With unfamiliar technology, you just have to make it work for you.”
