“Peekskill has always been more than a river town,” said Bre Pettis, curator of the exhibition. “It has been a place where history, justice, and culture intersect and where ordinary people stood up and extraordinary leaders found their voice. This exhibition honors both the change-makers who fought for freedom and equality and the icons who carried Peekskill’s name onto the national stage.”

The portraits were created by transforming photographs into digital drawings that were physically drawn with the Bantam Tools ArtFrame Art Machine System. The biographies invite visitors to reflect not only on the legacies of these figures but also on how Peekskill’s spirit of resilience and justice continues to shape the present.
